Answer the question below for helpful advice and information...
Toilet height – general guide:
As a rough guide if your thighs are horizontal (with your knees and hips at the same height) when seated on the toilet and your feet flat on the floor then the toilet is probably a good height for you.
These diagrams show a toilet that is likely to be too low (the knees are higher than their hips) and a toilet that is likely to be too high (the hips are higher than the knees and the feet are off the floor).
If you wish to check this then the toilet height most likely to suit You is approximately the same as the distance between the floor and the bottom of your thigh behind your knee.
The toilet height should be measured from the floor to the top of the seat. The height to your thigh should be measured when you are wearing your usual shoes or slippers. You should sit on a chair at a height so that your thighs are horizontal with your knees and hips at the same height and your knee and ankle joints should be at a right angle, as shown in the diagram. If you round the measurement to the nearest inch / cm then round down rather than up. This will give you the ideal toilet height for the You.
You then need to measure the height of the existing toilet and take this measurement away the height of the ideal toilet height and see what the difference is so that You can then take appropriate action.
After determining the toilet seat height you require you can then consider the most suitable option to resolve your problem:
As there are so many different types and designs of equipment available to assist in transferring on and off the toilet, it is important that you select the equipment that is safe and appropriate for you.
It is advised that, where possible and necessary, you seek professional advice and assessment from an Occupational Therapist or Trusted Assessor to ensure that your preferred solution/s to resolve your problems is suitable to fully meet your needs.
